Note from Jack57shs: Our 2015 letter to all previous donors is in the mail. We received the good news from The Springfield Foundation. We made our first award in May 2015. The Foundation manages our SHS Fund. They also sort through the applicants and select those to receive awards. The Foundation made over 300 awards for 2015.

2015 SHS Scholarships Campaign Letter

2015 Letter to all Donors
plus those who have not yet become donors ...
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to those of you who have been making contributions to the SHS Scholarships Program. I am absolutely thrilled by your generosity.

We are excited to make three new announcements . . .

First, The SHS Scholarships Program has become an official “Fund” at The Springfield Foundation. As a Fund, we now generate dividends on our investment [i.e., your donations] that enable us to award scholarships.

The current balance in our SHS Fund is $13,332.85. The interest on the SHS Fund right now [±5%] permits us to make one $500 award per year. This means that we can make one award for every $10,000 or so in our SHS Fund.

Second, The very first award was made this year by the SHS Scholarships Program Fund. A $500 scholarship was awarded to a 2015 SHS grad. She is Ms Ann V. who will be attending a university in Kentucky. We appreciate her nice thank you note.

[Added thought: We hope that those who received our Scholarship Awards in the future, will be able to give back to this Fund once their lives become more settled.]

Third, since the SHS Fund became an official Fund of The Springfield Foundation, we will now [1] receive publicity in Foundation news releases and publications, [2] be exposed to Foundation donors who are looking for worthy causes, and [3] have solicitations send out on our behalf by the Foundation.

Special recognition goes out to Sherman Goodrich, SHS Class of 1957, for his inspiring art work above. Thanks.

Remember, when you help our new SHS grads, you help Springfield. Your continued donations will inspire others to contribute to the SHS Fund.

Boogie Woogie for your dancin pleasure

The 1950s theme posted earlier caused me to search out some boogie woogie for others.

If this video don't get you a movin, nothing will. Great piano and great dancin. Turn up your speakers and enjoy it over and over and over as have I. . . .

Those of you who frequented El Som [El Sombrero] at the YWCA in Springfield will find these very familiar.

Just plain old boogie woogie on the piano [about 4:30 minutes] . . .
